BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College baseball team made history on Tuesday afternoon, setting a new school record for most hits in a single game with an explosive 23-hit performance in a 19-6 victory over Antelope Valley at Gerry Collis Field.
The Renegades came out swinging, scoring in six of the eight innings they batted in and putting up numbers in the 2nd, 5th, and 6th innings. Every part of the lineup contributed to what was a complete team effort.
Jordan Brito led the charge at the top of the lineup, going 4-for-7 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs, including a triple. Nick Martin added 3 hits and scored 4 times, while Anthony Nunez had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-6 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. In total, BC tallied eight doubles and two triples, showcasing both power and consistency throughout the lineup.
Catcher Jason Smith drove in two runs and doubled, while Isaac Torres and Trent Martin combined for 3 hits, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs in the outfield. Freshman Ben Ullyott came off the bench with a key RBI single in the late innings.
On the mound, Andres Rivera earned the win, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out four. Relievers Frank Fabian, Tony Fabian, and Zachary Wargo closed it out with three solid innings of work.
Tuesday's 19-run explosion and record-setting 23 hits will now be etched in BC baseball history.
The Renegades hope to continue the momentum into the final stretch of the regular season. Baseball will travel to AVC on Thursday and return right back home on Friday to play their final home game of the season. First pitch is set for 6:00 pm, but we will honor their sophomores about 10 minutes before the game begins.
