BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College baseball team left it all on the field Tuesday afternoon in a back-and-forth battle with LA Valley that ended in a 16–13 loss at Gerry Collis Field.
The Renegades put together an absurd offensive showing, racking up 16 hits and 13 runs. Despite the final score, Bakersfield proved its fight, clawing back from an early 6–0 deficit with a five-run second inning and a six-run fourth inning.
Sophomore center fielder Jordan Brito led the charge at the top of the order, going 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Freshman Luke Mann went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
Behind them, catcher Ben Ullyott and third baseman Anthony Nunez each drove in multiple runs. Ullyott with two RBIs and a double, and Nunez with four RBIs and a pair of hits, including a double of his own.
BC took an 11–7 lead into the fifth inning, but the Monarchs' bats stayed hot, eventually tying the game in the eighth before scoring three in the top of the ninth to take the lead for good. Bakersfield had runners on base late but couldn't find the final big hit to complete the rally.
On the mound, Andres Rivera gave BC 6.1 innings in the start, while Kaleb Pinedo took the loss after pitching the final 1.2 frames. The staff battled against a relentless LA Valley lineup that produced 18 hits and scored in six of nine innings.
Bakersfield will travel to LA Valley on Thursday and return home on Saturday as they continue their series with a 2:00 pm first pitch.
