Short-Handed Renegades Show Grit in 8–2 Loss to Undefeated Glendale

BAKERSFIELD, CA — Despite being down multiple pitchers and forced to get creative on the mound, the Bakersfield College baseball team showed toughness and heart Thursday afternoon in an 8–2 loss to conference powerhouse Glendale, who remained undefeated in Western State Conference play at 14-0.

With the Renegade pitching staff stretched thin, third baseman Liam O'Reilly took the mound for a spot start and battled through 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out four.

Offensively, Bakersfield got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first. Nick Martin and Trent Martin sparked the inning with back-to-back hits, and Trenton Hernandez capped it with an RBI single. Trent later added a double, finishing 2-for-4 on the day.

Nick Martin also put together a standout performance at second base, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, a double, a stolen base, and several strong defensive plays.

But Glendale's experience and depth ultimately wore down the Renegades. The Vaqueros broke the game open with a three-run sixth, then added insurance in the late innings behind a complete-game effort from their pitcher who struck out 11 and limited BC to two earned runs on 10 hits.

Reliever Tony Fabian, also pitching out of position, gave Bakersfield 3.2 innings of gritty relief, working through traffic while surrendering just one earned run.

Bakersfield will be back home on Saturday to host Glendale again due to flooding on the Vaqueros field. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
