BAKERFSIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College baseball team hosted Moorpark for a double header on Opening Day of the 2023 Season at Gerry Collis Field and split the games. Renegades fell short in the first game, 4-3 and came back to win the second,7-1 .
Moorpark started the scoring in the first inning with an unearned run. Unfortunately, the Raiders continued to lead scoring a run in the 5th and adding two more runs in the 6th.
Bakersfield struggled to get on the board until the 7th inning when center fielder Luis Fuentes grounded out to first base to bring in Zamaree Tillman to score. In the 8th inning, BC added two runs from Alek Martinez and Ryan Redstone but were unable to continue to score to win the game.
In the second game, Bakersfield would turn the tables and start the scoring drive. Sophomore Andrew Townson scored from a triple in the third inning hit by Martinez. BC's Fuentes tripled for two RBI's, Luke Froehlich, and Tillman in the fourth. Fuentes would shortly be brought in by teammate Townson to lead the game 4-0.
BC continued to dominate the game by scoring three more runs, two in the fifth inning and the final in the 8th. MC managed to score a single run in the 6th but that would be the only point they got on the Gades.
Sophomore Tim Ruiz finished the night with 7 strikeouts, while Austin Miller had three and David Delgadillo took the win for the team.
The Renegades go 1-1 at the start of the season. Tomorrow, they head to Moorpark's house and return home on Tuesday to take on College of the Sequoias for a 2:00pm first pitch.
