Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College baseball team hosted LA Mission College in a Western State Conference matchup at Gerry Collis Field Thursday afternoon and came away with a loss, 5-3.
LA Mission got on the board first with one run in the top of the first, with no outs on the board. They added three more runs in the top of the third to extend the lead to 4-0.
Hector Ruvalcaba finally got BC on the board after he reached first on an error which allowed Will Reynolds to score from third. Zach Williams then had an RBI single, which scored Ruvalcaba from second to cut the lead to 4-2.
LA Mission added to their lead with a run in the top of the fifth on a bases loaded walk by BC pitcher John Bell to go up 5-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, Trey Harmon had an RBI double to bring Zach Williams home from third in a comeback attempt, but that was all the offense BC was able to produce, taking the loss, 5-3.
Nathan Ortiz got the start at pitcher for the Renegades and worked four innings before Bell took the mound at the top of the fith and finished the game, throwing three strikeouts
With the loss, BC drops to to 8-11 overall and 1-2 in conference.
The Renegades head up to play COS tomorrow at 12:00pm, in a game that was added to the schedule today.
