The Bakersfield College Baseball Team (13-7, 9-5) entered Thursday's road game at WSC South-first place LA Pierce (13-18, 10-4) riding a five-game win streak and a chance to supplant them in the top spot, but it wasn't to be as BC fell on the wrong side of a 3-0 pitcher's duel.
BC trotted out ace Luke Andrews, and he didn't disappoint, giving up three earned runs while scattering eight hits over eight innings. Andrews also struck out nine while walking three.
On any other day, Andrews' performance should be enough to position his team for a win, but Pierce starter Tom Wilson (WP, 5-4) was dominant. Wilson gave up a leadoff single to Konner Dodge to start the game, and didn't allow another base hit until the fifth inning when Yukoh Saito doubled to lead off the frame. Tyson Brewer grounded out to move Saito to third, but Andrews beared down and struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning, marking the first and last time BC would have a runner in scoring position in the game.
Wilson allowed three hits and three walks while striking out 10 in his first complete game shutout of the season. Wilson leads the state in Ks with 86 on the year.
BC will host Pierce at 1p today at Gerry Collis Field.
