The Bakersfield College Baseball team (10-16, 6-4) rode a big day from the bats to a 9-5 win over LA Valley (3-24, 2-8) Tuesday at Gerry Collis Field. 

"We'll take it. Toerner danced around some walks and hit batters to go seven innings and pitch OK, and we hung on," Coach Tim Painton said, "Brock Hallum had a big day at the plate, and Tyson Brewer's three-run homer broke the game open, and Grant Combs had three hits today, so that accounted for much of our offense with those three guys, so it was nice to see all three have good days." 

Catcher Hallum was recovering from a flu-type bug that kept him out of practice-grudgingly-Tuesday, but the Division 1-bound slugger made up for lost time with a four for four performance at the plate, driving in five runs and even swiping a bag on a delayed steal. 

"It was a good day," Hallum said of his performance, "And those (four hits in four at bats) don't happen too often. Hitting can be a game of failures, for sure." 

Brewers' homer was a big one, giving BC the breathing room their pitching staff has gone without so many times this season. It was also the first by a BC batter at Gerry Collis Field this season, , and hopefully a slump-buster of sorts for the hard-working third baseman who has had an up and down season.

BC opened the game with five straight singles to jump to a 3-0 lead. 

 Toerner (3-3) wiggled out of trouble more than once to hold Valley to one earned run and two hits in seven innings.
