BAKERSFIELD, CA - In a thrilling match for the Bakersfield College volleyball team, Santa Monica edged out the Renegades in a five-set showdown, winning 3-2. The match was marked by intense rallies and standout performances, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the final point.
Bakersfield came out strong, taking the first set 25-22, thanks in part to an impressive performance from Kamryn Briggs, who notched 15 kills and provided a strong offensive presence. The team's momentum carried them through the opening set, setting the tone early on.
Santa Monica bounced back in the second set to secure a 25-19 victory and a third set 25-23 win.
However, the Renegades showed resilience and skill with a bounce back themselves to force a fifth set with a fourth set win, 25-20 thanks to key contributions from Alexandra Watts, who added 14 kills throughout the match.
In the final set, both teams fought fiercely, but Santa Monica's late-game execution was pivotal. They claimed the set 15-13, securing the match.
BC's Stevie Yursik delivered a standout performance with 22 kills and 12 digs while teammate Briggs had 16 digs and Chole Lopez ended with 12 digs.
Up next, Bakersfield will continue conference play on the road on Wednesday and return home on Friday to take on Antelope Valley at 6:00 PM.
