
The Bakersfield College Women's Tennis team (10-7, 3-4) beat Antelope Valley (1-8, 0-7) on the road in Western State Conference play on the road Thursday.
#1 Riley Tucker took down AVC's Celsea Mcgrew 6-3,6-3, #4 Kaylee Defrees and #5 Lucy Cisneros also won in straight sets. #2 Brittany Aguilar, #3 Ashley Guillen and #6 Claire Tomboc fell in straight sets to tough opponents.
After singles play against AVC the score was tied 3-3.
On a day where the wind was a major factor, the doubles teams for BC buckled down and found a way to get 2 victories.
#1 doubles team of Riley Tucker and Kaylee Defrees took down Celsea McGrew and Laney Ricker in an 8-2 thumping. At #2 Brittany Aguilar and Claire Tomboc gave AVC all they could handle eventually losing 9-7. And #3 doubles team of Ashley Guillen and Lucy Cisneros pulled through for an 8-1 victory and clinched the match.
Once again in tough conditions the BC Womens Tennis Team was the mentally tougher team and it showed in their 5-4 victory.
"This team is all about heart and determination demonstrated by their 4 wins of the score 5-4 all in their favor. Big win and a great 3 day stretch for the team. Heading into next weeks conference match with Santa Monica with a full head of steam," Coach Nick Loudermilk said.
