BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's soccer team hosted the Ventura City College Pirates on Friday, and despite an early goal from Bakersfield, Ventura took control of the match, cruising to a 5-1 victory.
The Renegades got off to a fast start, with freshman Melody Christian scoring her first collegiate goal in the 4th minute on an unassisted effort to give BC an early 1-0 lead. However, Ventura quickly responded a minute later to tie the game at 1-1.
Ventura continued their momentum, scoring in the 10th minute and adding another goal giving Ventura a comfortable 3-1 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Ventura showed no signs of letting up. The Pirates' offense, scored in the 50th minute and capped off their dominant performance with a late goal in the 88th minute.
Despite falling to Ventura, BCs' goalkeeper Mercedes Ramirez faced relentless attacks and made 11 saves.
With the loss, the Renegades overall record moves to 3-2-1. The team will head out for a couple of road matches before returning home on October 4th to start conference play against LA Valley at 4:00 PM.
