BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's soccer team opened their 2024 season at home with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Allan Hancock, showcasing a dominant performance from start to finish.
In the first half, freshman Griselda Espinoza wasted no time putting the Renegades on the board, scoring the first goal just one minute and 16 seconds into the match with an assist by midfielder Dulce Najera. Less than five minutes later, another freshman teammate, Alexandra Gallardo doubled the lead with an unassisted goal at 5:47. Najera found another opportunity to give returner Emily Vincent a goal to add to the tally and make it 3-0 just in the 12th minute. Capping off the strong first half, Melanie Mendizabal gave BC a commanding 4-0 lead with a goal in the 34th minute.
The Renegades maintained their control in the second half, with forward Mayson Saffouri adding the game's final goal in the 80th minute.
BC's defense was rock solid, allowing only four shots from Allan Hancock, none of which were on target. Bakersfield's attack was relentless, taking 14 shots, with 8 on goal, and converting 5 of them.
This impressive win gives the Renegades a strong start to the season, improving their record to 1-1-0. BC's next home game will be on September 3rd against Lemoore College at 1:00PM.
