Wrestling Opened Season at Home

The Bakersfield College team opened its season on Saturday with mixed results. 

The Renegades defeated West Hills Lemoore 34-23 in Round 1 of the Bakersfield Dual Tournament held at the Gil Bishop Sports Center before dropping a pair of duals to Cerritos, which fielded a split squad. 

Joshua Shepard (165 pounds), Rafael Roman-Amador (184 pounds) and Johnell Ward (285 pounds) all had pins in the dual against West Hills. Shepard needed just 30 seconds to dispatch his opponent. 

Shepard posted a 15-9 decision in the Renegades 27-19 loss to the Falcons "A" team. He didn't wrestle against Cerritos "B" team, a 33-24 winner over BC. 

The Renegades went 3-0 at 165-pounds as Luke Campbell pinned his Cerritos "B'" team opponent.

BC also went 3-0 at 174 pounds and 285 pounds, with three different wrestlers getting the victories in both of the two upper weight divisions.

Cerritos finished the day with a 6-0 dual record. Moorpark went 0-2 and West Hills was 0-3.

BC next takes the mat this coming Saturday when go on the road to face Sacramento City College.
