Bakersfield College Closes Season with a Strong Win Over Canyons

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's basketball team wrapped up the 2024-25 season on a high note, securing a commanding 53-34 victory over College of the Canyons at the Gil Bishop Sports Center where they celebrated their sophomores. The Renegades controlled the game from the start, building an early lead and maintaining their defense.

The Renegades set the tone early, outscoring Canyons 13-6 in the first quarter, with freshman Isabel Acevez leading the charge from beyond the arc. The second quarter saw BC extend their lead heading into halftime with a 30-14 advantage.

Canyons struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting just 20% from the field and 0% from three-point range (0-17). Bakersfield's defense was relentless, forcing 22 turnovers and capitalizing with 20 points off those mistakes.

Despite a low-scoring third quarter for both teams, Bakersfield continued to control the tempo. Brooklyn Herron was dominant on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds, while Kilah Monje and Zaila Marquez kept the offense moving.

The Renegades closed out the game with a strong defensive effort in the fourth quarter, limiting Canyons to just 8 points, securing their eighth win of the season. Leading the night was Acevez with a 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 three-pointers. Sophomores Monje finished the game with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 1 three-pointer while Marquez finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

This victory marked a strong finish for the Renegades, who closed the season with an 8-20 overall record (4-10 in conference play).
