Bakersfield’s Late Rally Falls Short Against West LA

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Despite a spirited second-half comeback, the Bakersfield College women's basketball team fell to West LA, 55-46, in a tough home matchup at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Wednesday evening for their "Pink Out" game.

West LA came out strong, building a 21-11 lead in the first quarter and extending it to 35-18 by halftime. The Renegades, however, found their rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 17-8 behind clutch shooting from freshman Isabel Acevez, who led Bakersfield with 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Jocelyn Pope added 13 points and a team-high 7 rebounds, keeping the Renegades within striking distance.

BC trimmed the lead to single digits in the final quarter, but West LA maintained control down the stretch. Bakersfield struggled with turnovers, committing 18, which West LA converted into 15 points.

Despite the loss, the Renegades dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 13 offensive rebounds and scoring 18 second-chance points. Brooklyn Herron led the charge defensively, grabbing 9 rebounds and adding 2 steals.

Bakersfield (7-16, 3-6) will look to bounce back in their next conference matchup at Antelope Valley College before returning home next Wednesday.
