BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team split a doubleheader against the visiting El Camino Warriors in front of a packed house on Saturday evening.
Game 1: El Camino 4, Bakersfield 0
Bakersfield struggled to generate offense in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader, falling 4-0 to El Camino.
El Camino took control early, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Warriors added insurance runs in the fourth and seventh innings.
Bakersfield's bats were kept quiet, with only three players managing a hit. Serenity Angulo pitched a solid game despite the loss, going the distance while allowing four earned runs on 11 hits and striking out two.
Game 2: Bakersfield 1, El Camino 0
The Renegades bounced back in Game 2 behind a stellar pitching performance from Alexia Martinez, who tossed a complete-game shutout to hand El Camino just its fourth loss of the season.
Martinez was in complete control, limiting the Warriors to just four hits over seven innings while striking out one and forcing 13 groundouts.
BC's lone run came in the first inning when Sadie Salas worked a leadoff walk, stole second, and later scored on a groundout by Serenity Angulo.
El Camino had a chance to tie the game in the sixth, putting a runner on second with two outs, but Martinez induced a groundout to end the threat.
Aliya Perez recorded two of Bakersfield's three hits in the game, while Angulo provided the game's only RBI.
With the split, Bakersfield moves to 14-16 on the season. The Renegades will look to travel to Glendale for their next conference matchup on Tuesday, April 1st.
