Softball Takes 2 Wins for Home Opener

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team went 2-0 for their home opener on Friday after hosting Fresno City College and Riverside College. Renegades secured a thrilling 2-1 comeback win over Fresno, then jumped out to an early lead and held off a late Riverside rally in the second game to secure a 6-5 win in its home opener.

In BC's first game of the day against the Rams, the Renegades scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off. Alexia Martinez (1-0) delivered a dominant complete-game performance, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out six. Trailing 1-0, the Renegades capitalized late as Isabella Rodriguez and Clarisa Rivera each drove in a run to complete the rally. Bakersfield's defense held strong, committing zero errors, while Martinez's clutch pitching kept the game within reach until the offense delivered in the final inning.

In the second game, Bakersfield's Jennifer Padilla led the charge with a two-run double, while Brylee Bramhall and Clarisa Rivera each added an RBI. The Renegades put up three runs in the second and two in the fourth, building a lead that proved just enough.

Serenity Angulo (W, 1-0) pitched five strong innings, allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out six. Alexia Martinez closed it out, working through trouble in the final two innings to secure the win. Riverside threatened with four runs in the sixth, but Bakersfield's defense held firm to seal the victory.

Softball traveled to Chaffey College the following day and fell, 5-3. The team will host the College of Sequoias in a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 4th with its first game starting at noon.
