BAKERSFIELD, CA—The Bakersfield College softball team hosted the Citrus College Owls on Thursday at the Dean and Adah Gay Softball Complex. Despite a solid effort from the Owls pitcher, who allowed only four runs over six innings while striking out seven, the Owls offense struggled while Bakersfield's offense ended the game, scoring four runs to defeat Citrus.
Bakersfield scored a run in the third inning, followed by a two-run outburst in the fourth and another insurance run in the sixth. The offensive highlight for Bakersfield came from Breanna Marquez, who delivered a three-run triple to extend their lead.
Savannah Figueroa stifled Citrus hitters, pitching a complete game shutout and tallying seven strikeouts.
Ultimately, Bakersfield's strong pitching performance and timely hitting proved to be the difference-maker, as they secured the victory over Citrus.
With the win, softball grabs their first conference win of the season and is now 12-5. Up next, they head out to Fullerton College for the Fullerton Tournament, where they will take on Pasadena City College and Fullerton College tomorrow.
