BAKERSFIELD, CA - With their season on the line the men's golf program knew exactly what needed to happen for them to advance to the postseason. In the closest margin in decades the Renegades were 2 wins from third place sitting in fifth overall. "We discussed every possible outcome leading into the weekend and the only one that sat well with us was play the best 36 holes we could and land on top of at least two teams ahead of us," said Coach Coble.
The Renegades stepped on Knollwood Golf Club at 6:00am with determination and a desire to make the Bakersfield community proud. After the dust of round one settled the men had secured a first round finish of 3rd overall which opened the door for a strong second round finish.
"I knew as the scores were posted that the guys would hunt it down. Our guys train for these moments; we're in the weight room daily and walk 36 holes for fun. I could see it in their walk that they were grabbing another gear," stated Coble.
After the 36 holes came to an end and the scores were posted the Renegades had accomplished what they set out to do. The moved up the conference ranks from fifth to third and in doing so eliminated both Citrus College and Glendale from advancing to the post season as a team.
"These guys showed what Bakersfield is all about today. Not one time did they display another other than 100% commitment to our plan and each other. This is a special group off young men and I couldn't be more proud to say that they are all homegrown with a determination to prove that Bakersfield isn't to be messed with," Coble
