Bakersfield Falls Short in Tight Battle Against West LA, 70-66

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College men's basketball team gave West LA all they could handle but ultimately came up just short, falling 70-66 in a hard-fought home contest at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Wednesday night.

The Renegades started strong, leading 35-31 at halftime, thanks to an explosive first-half performance from Khalil Shivers, who finished with a game-high 24 points and 5 rebounds. Joauquin Rios added 15 points, while Godwill Fomusoh contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds to anchor Bakersfield in the paint.

The Wildcats capitalized on Bakersfield's mistakes, scoring 25 points off turnovers compared to the Renegades' 15.

Despite a strong effort on the boards, where BC outrebounded West LA 44-32, and a solid showing at the free-throw line (77.3%), the Renegades struggled with ball control, committing 24 turnovers that ultimately swung momentum in West LA's favor.

Bakersfield (10-13, 2-7) will look to regroup as they head into the final stretch of conference play, hoping to translate their competitive performance tonight into a few more wins on the season when they travel to Antelope Valley College on Saturday.
