The Bakersfield College men's basketball team improved to 2-0 in Western State-South Conference play with a 99-58 dismantling of College of the Canyons at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Saturday.

The Renegades (13-3) shot 57.6-percent from the field overall and 53.8-percent from three-point range in winning their league home-opener.

James Pendleton came off the bench to pace BC with 19 points. The freshman point guard connected on 8 of 11 field goal attempts and was 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.

Twelve different players scored for the Renegades, who broke open a tie game with a 32-14 run to close out the first half.

"We started out a little slow and then as we found our way and found out what would work against them we started to play well," BC coach Rich Hughes said. "We had multiple guys make shots and multiple guys score. When we do that, we're really hard to beat."

BC completed dominated the second half, shooting 69.7-percent from the field and out-scoring the over-matched Cougars 60-37.

Jameik Riviere tallied 17 points, 12 assists, and five steals and Deandre Dickson registered 15 points and nine rebounds for the Renegades.

BC's quick, aggressive defense had 18 steals while holding Canyons, which committed 29 turnovers, to 36-percent shooting from the floor.

"We started out in a box-and-one," Hughes said. "…But we quickly found out the pressing them was our best avenue and that's when we really started to get into them. That's when we started to get the steals, which led to transition points, dunks, etc."

James Chevious led the Cougars (5-9, 0-2 WSC) in scoring with 13 points.
