Calgary, CA - Former Renegade football wide receiver Brandon Banks was awarded with the 2019 Canadian Football League's (CFL) Most Outstanding Player award at the 2019 Shaw CFL Awards. The honor comes ahead of Sunday's Grey Cup in which he will take the field with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to face another former Renegade in defensive back Mercy Maston, a member of the 2012 BC football team.

Banks, originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, played at Bakersfield College from 2006-2007. In2007 he helped lead Bakersfield to a No. 1 national ranking, a 12-1 record on the season and a berth in the Southern California championship game. Banks still holds the BC football receiving record from the 2007 season in which he 93 receptions for 1396 yards and 15 touchdowns. Those numbers dwarf the second leading BC receiver, Derrick Vickers who completed his senior season at Utah, who in 2016 had 78 receptions for 894 yards and 7 touchdowns.

After his BC career, Banks transferred to Kansas State for a stellar career as a Wildcat before being signed by the Washington Redskins after the 2010 NFL Draft. He was a member of the Redskins for three season before becoming a free agent and signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2013.
