Two Bakersfield Icons Come Together

Two Bakersfield Icons Come Together

Imagine this...

It is a beautiful Saturday morning.  The weather is perfect as you drive up a path that leads you to a lone palm tree surrounded by beautiful landscapes, water, and endless greens.

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, that is exactly what a group of golfers saw as Bakersfield College Athletics partnered with Rio Bravo Country Club in what is said to be an iconic venture.  At 8:00 am on the 18th hole, Bakersfield College golfers, coaches, athletic administration, owners, management, and staff all came together with various media to dedicate a tree, along with a plaque which was dedicated to BC Athletics in honor of all student athletes.  The plaque reads, "The tree, Renegades, symbolizes the roots of a growing relationship between two and the love of sports.  BC, Welcome Home."  Home is definitely how BC's new golf coaches, Nick Kaiser and Andy Muro felt as they watched some of their men's players, Luke Dickinson, Shawn Petty, and Logan Stone take some shots on the course.  Alongside the boys, was Bakersfield College President, Dr. Jerry Fliger who got in some swings of his own.

Both men's and women's golf teams will benefit from using the Rio Bravo Country Club golf course and all that is has to offer as it is now their home course.  New owners of the course and country club, Jeremy and Kim Willer, along with BC Athletic Director, Reggie Bolton, are very excited for the partnership and cannot wait to facilitate future events and tournaments together.  With all the new improvements happening at Rio Bravo, and the amazing student athletes at BC, 2024 is sure to be a great year.
