The VC beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday on the final day of the regular season at the Ventura Harbor Cove courts. The Pirates dropped a 3-2 decision to Santa Monica before sweeping past Bakersfield 5-0 in the finale. Talia Behrens and Sadie Lishman, along with Addison Olson and Giannamay Tayco each won two contests on the day for Ventura (16-6, 8-4).
Ventura dropped the early match to Santa Monica 3-2. Behrens and Lishman won their match in the No.2 slot 24-22, 21-13. Olson and Tayco provided the Pirates with their second point with a 21-14, 21-18 win on Court 4, but the Corsairs produced straight set wins over VC on Courts 1, 3 and 5.
The Pirates dominated the Renegades in the regular season finale with four straight set wins. Behrens and Lishman won at No. 2, 21-11, 21-12 while Skylar Rutherford and Lexi Brinkman recorded a 21-13, 21-9 win at the No. 4 slot. Beira Boyso and Taylor Lane won on Court 5 21-14, 21-11 before Shai Daniels and Viola Barrios captured the win in the top-ranked match, 21-14, 21-14. Olson and Tayco won their first set 21-14 before falling in the second 21-19. They regrouped to take the deciding third set 15-10 to complete the sweep on Court 3.
The Pirates return to the courts on Friday April 25 and Saturday April 26 at the Western State Conference Pairs Tournament hosted at Moorpark.
