Singles Play Pushes Men's Tennis Past Bakersfield

A singles victory at the top from sophomore Rafael Rullan clinched an intense 5-4 win over Bakersfield on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Tigers found themselves in a dogfight, but huge wins in the singles lineup got the job done.

Three of the four singles matches were completed in two sets, but the most vital showdown ended in three sets. After dropping the opening set 5-7, R. Rullan went on to take the final two sets by the count of 6-2, 6-3, thus clinching the match for his team.

Freshman Emilio Real backed him with a two-set win at the second slot at 6-4, 7-6 (6), while sophomore Carlos Rullan worked a hard fought 7-5, 6-3 win. Freshman Austin Harvell capped the singles matches with a 7-5, 6-1 win.

The lone victory in doubles came at the hands of sophomore Anaht Bhika and Harvill. It was not an easy route, but they traveled to an 8-5 victory.
