BC Sweeps the West LA College

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College volleyball team continued its hot streak, sweeping Western State Conference-South opponent West LA College, 25-12, 25-16, 25-20 Friday night at the Gil Bishop Sports Center.

The win is the ninth in a row for BC, which currently sits atop the WSC-South standings, one game ahead of second place Santa Monica College.

The Renegades, the No. 21 ranked team in the state, had their way with the last place Wildcats (5-14, 1-8 WSC-South).

BC (13-5, 9-0 WSC-South) dominated the first set and after some close competition early in the second and third sets, pulled away late.

"We've been in a really good rhythm for the past three to four weeks," BC coach Carl Ferreira said. "So, that was the big thing…We're trying to take this one match at a time. Sounds very cliche-ish but we have so many mental skills we use to just kind of understand how to be consistent. So that's what we were looking to achieve tonight."

Freshman outside hitter Brianna Bowyer led the BC attack with 10 kills. Stevie Yurisk had 6 kills.

Sophomore setter Aubree Dees recorded 13 assists.

BC's libero, Kya Jones, tallied 23 digs. Jones entered the night ranked No. 3 in the state in digs per set with 5.80.

Dees has been a stat sheet filler for the Renegades. She's had five matches with triple-doubles (double figures in kills, assists, and digs) this season.

Sophomore middle blocker Haley Tedrow started the match ranked No. 3 in the state in blocks per set with 1.36.

BC's next match is at Santa Monica on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Corsairs have won six matches in a row since losing in five sets to the Renegades three weeks ago.

"It's a big match," Ferreira said. "I thought we played them really well the last time we played them … I'm looking forward to that match. It should be an enormous match. They're very well coached with really good players, but we'll be ready."
