Bakersfield Drops a Tough Game over Ventura

BAKERSFIELD, CA - It went down to the wire, but ultimately, not in the favor of the Bakersfield College volleyball team.

The Renegades let a 2-1 game lead slip away and lost a heartbreaker, 25-16, 18-25, 22-25, 25-10, 15-8, to visiting Ventura College on Wednesday.

It was the first loss to the Pirates at the Gil Bishop Sports Center in over a decade.

Ventura entered the contest with an 8-1 record and ranked No. 5 in the state.

No. 24 BC (4-4) rallied from a slow start to win Games No. 2 and No. 3 but dropped a back-and-forth Game No. 4, setting up a dramatic conclusion to the hard-fought match.

Kamryn Briggs paced the Renegades with 12 kills. Brianna Bowyer had 8 kills and Alexandria Johnson and Aubree Dees chipped in 7 kills each for BC, which lost for the first time at home this season.

Dees also contributed 14 assists and 14 digs to the Renegades cause. Libero Kya Jones led BC in digs with 18. Briggs and Johnson tied for second on the team in digs with 18.

The Renegades' next match is on the road on Friday against Santa Barbara City College.
