WOMEN'S SOCCER SUFFERS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

The Bakersfield College Women's Soccer (3-1-1) team suffered their first loss of 2016 Tuesday when Santa Barbara City College (4-1) picked up a 4-1 victory Tuesday.

"They scored first and we struck right back, but a couple of fouls and mistakes gave them opportunities that ended up costing us," Coach Scott Dameron said, "They had more chances than we did, they went to goal more often than we did. When we played our style, they couldn't hold us back. But we have to be more consistent when it comes to applying our philosophy of play."

Sabrina Sanchez scored BC's lone goal off an assist from Amelia Lopez. It was just the second score surrendered by the Vaqueros in four games this season where they've outscored opponents 14-2.

Lopez had scored at least one goal in each of the team's first five games this season, and that streak was snapped. But she still picked up an assist, giving her at least a point recorded in each game of 2016.

"We had our chances, and certainly quite a few in the first half. There were opportunities for us to claw back into the game, but we didn't catch any breaks. The penalty kick that was the fourth goal is a great example of that," Dameron said.

BC continues a long stretch of road games this Friday at Cabrillo College at 6:30p.
