Women's Basketball Comes Out with a Win over Taft

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's basketball team handed Taft College its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Gil Bishop Sports.

The two teams exchanged the lead 10 times before Keely Harris buried a three-pointer from the right corner with 10.3 seconds remaining in the game to put the Renegades ahead for good.

After Taft's Alizah Lara missed a layup with five seconds left that would have given the Cougars (5-1) back the lead, Jasmine Martinez added a pair of free throws to seal the 58-55 victory for the Renegades (4-2)

Sydni Morris had 17 points and 18 rebounds, and Leslie Medina recorded 12 points for BC, which trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half. Harris finished with 11 points.

Brandy Edwards scored a game-high 19 points for Taft. Celicia Enos added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars.

With the win, the Renegades move to 4-2 on the season and will travel to Cuesta College on Tuesday, November 21st, for a 5:00 PM tipoff and then compete at the Santa Ana Tournament the following week.
