Marisa "Peanut" Figueroa scored 22 points to lead BC to victory in their final pre-season game Saturday.

The Bakersfield College Women's Basketball Team (11-7) beat El Camino-Compton Center (6-10) 81-34, by scoring exactly 21 points in quarters two, three, and four-while blanking ECCC in the final period of the contest.

""We started out a little but slow, but came out and had some great shooting," Coach Paula Dahl said, "I thought we played some team basketball, and we shored up our defense in the second half. But now it's time for conference because this is what we're working for, and now we have to get things done."

Marissa "Peanut" Figueroa led all scorers with 22 points, 5-7 shooting from the field, including 80 percent (four of five) from beyond the three-point arc.

"We went to a two-three zone which we normally don't do, and the kids responded really well to that," Dahl said.

BC blanked ECCC in the fourth quarter, and Coach Dahl gave Tristyn Salazar much of the credit for neutralizing Compton's Nia Ingram on offense.

"She covered the whole time she had the ball, and just created pressure on her as she brought the ball up the floor. The last thing we wanted them to be able to do was just walk the ball up the floor, and that didn't happen," Dahl said.

Julie Olvera had a big night in her first game back from an injury that had her sidlelined for three games dating back to the middle of December.

She led BC in rebounding with eight, while scoring six points and contributing four assists.

The Renegades will open conference play on the road Wednesday, January 18th against Pierce College.
