Softball Earns a Win on Sophomore Day

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team clinched a hard-fought 6-4 victory over the College of the Canyons Cougars in a close matchup on sophomore day.

The visiting Cougars got off to a strong start, putting up three runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Renegades responded with a six-run explosion in the bottom of the second inning, propelled by Brylee Bramhall's two-run double and RBIs from Camille Chavez, Alyna Ruiz, and Breanna Marquez. The offensive outburst gave BC a commanding lead they would not relinquish.

Despite the deficit, Canyons battled back, adding a run in the fifth inning, but Bakersfield's pitcher Savannah Figueroa held them at bay for the rest of the game. Figueroa pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out ten batters.

With this win, Bakersfield improved to 22-12 overall and 7-3 in conference. BC will head out for the road for the rest of the season, wrapping up their final game on Thursday at LA Mission. The playoff schedule and standings will be released shortly after; make sure to check gogades.com for updates.
