Softball Grabs Two wins over Allan Hancock

BAKERSFIELD, CA - In a dominant performance, Bakersfield College hosted the Allan Hancock Bulldogs in a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.  Bakersfield secured a commanding 15-0 victory in the first game and 8-3 in the second game, showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive stability.

In game one, the Renegades offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing an impressive 18 hits and capitalizing on Allan Hancock's defensive lapses. Alyna Ruiz, Sadie Salas, and Emily Hernandez led the charge for Bakersfield, who contributed significantly to their team's offensive onslaught. Ruiz and Salas each had two hits and two runs batted in (RBIs), while Hernandez tallied two hits and an RBI.

The pitching duo of Ryleigh Harrison and Serenity Angulo stifled Allan Hancock's offense, holding them to a mere two hits and no runs scored. Harrison pitched three scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out two batters. Angulo continued the dominance, pitching two innings and conceding only two hits while striking out four batters.

 

 

In game two, BC started by taking an early lead in the first inning, scoring one run. However, the Bulldogs quickly responded in the top of the second inning, rallying for three runs to take the lead this time around. Allan Hancock's Kaylee Dolores drove in one run with a hit, while Riley Vannasap added another RBI, helping Allan Hancock to a 3-1 advantage.

Bakersfield, however, answered back strongly in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs to retake the lead. Sophomore Camille Chavez was behind their offensive surge, blasting a home run and accumulating five RBIs in the inning. Bakersfield added two more runs in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 8-3.

On the defensive side, Savannah Figueroa pitched a solid game for Bakersfield, holding Allan Hancock to just three runs on three hits over seven innings. Figueroa showcased her dominance by striking out an impressive 14 batters while only allowing one walk.

In the end, Bakersfield's offense and solid pitching proved to be the difference, as they secured two wins over Allan Hancock. Renegades move to 6-3 on the season and head out for five road games before coming home next Saturday to host College of Sequoias in a doubleheader at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
