RENEGADES DEFEAT RIVERSIDE, TAKE GAME ONE

Jordan Jimenez batting

Jordynn Jimenez delivered a clutch two-run double and Kylee Fahy was once again dominant in the circle as the Bakersfield College softball team beat visiting Riverside City College 4-1 in Game 1 of their CCCAA Southern California  Regional, best-of-three playoff series.

After the two teams traded runs early in the game, Jimenez came up to the plate in the second inning with two outs and a drilled a hard line drive into the gap in right-center, scoring a pair of runs.

That was all the run-support Fahy would need. The First Team All-State pitcher shut down the No. 11 Tigers (25-15) the rest of the way.

"I told the kids before the series even started that this was going to be about hitting," BC coach Casey Goodman said. "Kylee has been consistent for us all year so we knew she was going to keep us in the game. We have to have timely hitting and we have to play good defense. We did both of those things tonight."

The only run allowed by Fahy was unearned. She gave up just four hits and two walks and had 11 strike outs.

The No. 6 Renegades (32-9) finished with five hits, Jimenez's double and singles by Fahy, Yesenia Saldana, McKenna Valencia, and Monica Alvarez.

Fahy's hit produced the Renegades' first run.  BC's final run came on a fifth inning throwing by RCC catcher Aeriel Carlson. Alvarez broke from second attempting to steal third and Carlson threw the ball into left field.

Game 2 of the series is today (Saturday)  at 2 p.m. Game 3 (if necessary) will follow soon after the conclusion of Game 2.
