Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College men's basketball team hosted visiting Porterville College in the 2018 Renegade Classic at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Friday afternoon and won 79-67.

The first half was a close battle with neither team taking a significant advantage and exchanging the lead ten times. At the break, Porterville led by a point, 28-27.

BC came out strong in the second half and took the momentum, leading by as much as five points midway through before the Pirates came back to tie the game and exchange the lead a number of times. The Renegades withstood the Porterville attack however, and came out with their first win of the season, 79-67.

Leading BC in scoring for the game was Shahadah Camp with 31 points. Kobe Garner finished with 15 points and Quentin Pettiford added 10.

"That's probably how we're going to play a lot of times", commented Coach Hughes after the game, "Our defense got stops and we finally made shots in the second half. It's tough to get the first win, but we got it so it's downhill from there."

With the win Renegades improve to 1-3 overall on the season.

Up next, they will return to action tomorrow in their second game of the classic, Saturday Nov. 17, at 3:00pm against Mt. San Jacinto in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
