The Bakersfield College Men's Basketball Team (19-9, 6-1) beat West LA (2-4, 13-11) 70-66, while College of the Canyons toppled second place Santa Monica to seal up BC's second consecutive Western State Conference-South Championship.

"It was a good hard-fought game, and we were undermanned, but our guys responded with a good defensive performance tonight," Coach Rich Hughes said.

Tucker Eenigenburg led all scorers with 23 points, but Hughes had his own thoughts about where BC truly dominated the game.

"We've got injuries to our biggest kid, and Henry has to step up and take on their 6'8" kid, and Henry stepped up and played great defense and logged a lot of minutes and performed really well," Hughes said.

Henry Galinato pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and blocked five shots, while contributing eight points. Sean Leflore, lived up to Coach Hughes' nickname of "The Swiss Army Knife" by scoring ten points, blocking three shots, racking up three steals, and pulling down six rebounds.

"Leflore always plays like a man, but he was on an extra gear tonight. He made hustle plays, he scored, he was a leader, he did everything for us. We are happy for him and the other sophomores. THey were one of those groups that wasn't given a chance to win at the beginning of the season, and they used that as motivation to do something that has never been done. And no one can say that but those four guys," Hughes said.

The back-to-back conference championships mark BC's first such run since the Western State Conference was formed in 1981.

The Renegades didn't find out about Santa Monica's loss until they were in civilian clothes, so there wasn't a net-cutting celebration like they had when they clinched the conference championship in 2016, but they might have one during their final regular season game against Canyons on Wednesday, February 15th at 5p in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
