Bakersfield Falls to Allan Hancok in a Late Rally

BAKERSFIELD, CA - A late rally wasn't quite enough for the Bakersfield College football team against Allan Hancock College on Saturday afternoon.

The Renegades scored two touchdowns in the final seven minutes and 13 seconds but came up eight points short, 21-13.

Carson Woods ran for one touchdown and passed for another as BC (3-3, 1-2) attempted to storm back from a three touchdown, fourth-quarter deficit.

Woods was 23 of 37 for 233 yards passing and ran six times for six yards, including a 4-yard touchdown scamper for BC's first points of the game midway through the final stanza.

Three minutes later Woods connected with Jalen Hankins on a 33-yard touchdown pass that made it a one score game.

However, that was as close as the Renegades would get.

Overall, the game was extremely close statistically. Both teams had 18 first downs and Hancock narrowly out-gained BC, 333-310.

One of the biggest issues for the Renegades was trying to stop the Bulldogs running game, which compiled 278 yards 42 carries (6.6 average).

That allowed Hancock (3-3, 2-1) to control things for the first three quarters.

BC struggled to run the ball (32 attempts for 77 yards). Hankins led the Renegades in rushing with 43 yards on 14 carries. The talented running back also had 6 receptions for 66 yards.

Despite the Bulldogs huge rushing advantage, BC won the battle of possession time by three minutes (31:30-28:30).

The Renegades didn't commit any turnovers and were flagged only two times for 29 yards.

BC only punted one time and that was at the very start of the game.

The Renegades' most preeminent problem on offense was their inability to finish off drives. Three times in the first three quarters, twice on long drives and once on an interception, BC had the ball inside the Bulldogs 20-yard line and came away with zero points.

That ultimately proved to be the Renegades' downfall.

Next up for BC is a homecoming week matchup against Moorpark College. The Renegades at Raiders will take the field inside Memorial Stadium for 6 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.
