BC MAKES STATEMENT AT LA HARBOR IN SIGNATURE WIN

Football quarterback throwing a pass
Cesar De Leon rolls out to pass while Elisha Ortiz blocks in support at LA Harbor College Saturday.

The Bakersfield College football team (3-1)  went into LA Harbor College (1-3) still stinging from last week's two point loss at home to #3 Riverside, and they turned that frustration into a 47-point outburst peppered with huge plays on both sides of the ball.

Cam Roberson's night seemed to be nothing but huge plays. The freshman wideout hauled in four passes for 91 yards and a score, and returned a punt over 90 yards for a touchdown.

Roberson's special teams score was BC's first punt return for a touchdown since Marquise Johnson and Chaz Adams accomplished the feat in 2012.

Elisha Ortiz scored three touchdowns on the ground for the Renegades behind solid offensive line play and aggressive downfield blocking from the receiving corps, raising his team-leading total to six on the season.

But the defense didn't rest on their early lead, and produced plenty of big plays of their own.

Bobby Robinson blocked the Seahawks only PAT attempt in the first quarter, and scored BC's final touchdown with a record-tying 100 yard interception return, to cap all scoring and complete a whistle-to-whistle, high-energy, performance from the sophomore defensive back.

Ernest Harris continued to make his early case for Defensive Player of the Year with his third interception of the season, and it was a gem.

With Harbor quarterback Demtrius Reed rolling right and looking for a receiver, Harris attacked the flat to close off the sideline, and Reed attempted to loft a pass above his head and away from his momentum, but Harris defied physics and and reached back with his field-side (right) arm and picked off the pass one-handed.

BC will face El Camino (3-1) this weekend in what has become the renewal of an old rivalry.
