Bakersfield College (6-4, 2-3) had the ball and a first down inside Canyons' (5-5, 3-2) five yard line with less than two minutes to play, but couldn't capitalize and lost 14-10 in their regular season finale Saturday at historic Memorial Stadium.

BC put together a solid drive that got them as close as Canyons' three yard line, but on 1st and goal, an illegal procedure penalty backed them up to the eight, and just three plays later, QB Cesar De Leon fired an incomplete pass on 4th and goal and turned the ball over on downs.

The illegal shift penalty was just one of a season-high 17 penalties for 157 yards, which actually paled in comparison to Canyons' 17 flag-175 yard day.

The Renegade defense created opportunities for scoring as they picked off Canyons QB Matt Moore four times and forced three fumbles, but inconsistency plagued BC's offense, and the loss almost guarantees the 'Gades won't be playing a bowl game at home next weekend.
