The Bakersfield College Baseball Team decided to turn the corner on their season by turning the corner at first often against Cuesta Tuesday afternoon. The Renegades smacked six doubles in support of an efficient start by Freshman Chris Diaz and beat Cuesta on the road 4-2. 

The Stockdale product won his first collegiate start after pitching two scoreless innings of relief against Fullerton last Saturday while giving up just one hit, striking out two and walking one. His first start followed essentially the same pattern. 

"He pitched extremely well in a situation where after a weekend full of baseball, we just don't have a lot of pitching left," Coach Tim Painton said, "He threw a couple of solid innings over the weekend and stepped up today and did a good job as a spot starter." 

Diaz surrendered just one unearned run and scattered three hits across six innings, striking out two and walking one, before being relived by Cain Roberts in the seventh inning. 

BC didn't disappoint at the plate either. Tokyo native Yukoh Saito was an effective table-setter today for BC, going two for four with two doubles and an RBI and a run scored, giving him four runs scored just four games into the season. 

Branton  Jaspar was two for five with an RBI and a double, but it was his RBI single in the seventh that spoke the loudest, scoring Saito and giving BC the lead.

Tyson Brewer would score an insurance run in the next frame on a wild pitch, and it turned out to be just the policy BC needed. 

In the bottom of the eighth, Roberts-BC's stretch run workhorse out of the bullpen in 2016-was charged with a run when Cuesta's George Hammon scoed on a fielder's choice to pull them within one run of the Renegades. 

Taylor Burns was perfect for the final inning and two thirds, striking out two on his way to sealing BC's first game away from Collis Field with a save.

The Renegades entered the game ranked #13 in the state, and Cuesta #6, according the the California Community College Baseball Coaches' Association Poll.
