The Bakersfield College baseball team closed out the regular season in thrilling fashion on Friday.

The Renegades scored two runs in the bottom of ninth inning to register a 4-3 walk-off victory over Citrus College at Gerry Collis Field.

Trailing 3-2 with one out and the bases loaded, pinch hitter Luis Martinez lashed a hard grounder past Owls' third baseman Marcos Campos, scoring Jassen Oliver to tie the game.

The next runner in line, Brooks Douglass was gunned out at the plate as the play continued but Citrus catcher Joseph Morreale overshot third base with the relay throw trying to nab Kyle James. As the ball rolled down the left field line, James raced home with the winning run.

Luke Andrews pitched two perfect innings of relief to earn the win, the Renegades eighth in a row.

BC, clinched a state playoff berth by beating the Owls on Thursday. The Renegades will find out who and where they'll begin the post-season on Sunday afternoon.

Andrews (3-2) struck out four of the six batters he faced.

Austin Toerner started on the mound for BC and pitched seven strong innings in which he allowed eight hits and issued three walks while striking out six before giving way to Andrews with the Renegades trailing 3-2.

"It's not the way it was designed but we'll take the win," BC coach Tim Painton said. "Our pitching was outstanding. Toerner was very, very good. Andrews out of the bullpen was phenomenal. And Luis Martinez had the big hit in the ninth inning."

BC (26-10, 16-5 WSC-South) led 1-0 at the end first inning and 2-1 at the conclusion of the second inning.

Brock Hallum's plated the Renegades' first run via a RBI single. Jassen Oliver knocked in BC's second run with a sacrifice bunt.

After holding the Owls scoreless for four straight innings, Toerner gave up two runs and BC's one-run advantage in the seventh.

But the Owls (14-21-1, 7-14 WSC-South) were unable to hold on to the lead for long, due in large part to self-inflicted damage.

The bases were loaded for Martinez in the ninth because of a fielding error and two walks.

Martinez's game-tying single was the only hit of the inning for the Renegades, who finished with just five hits.

"I felt like we came out and played a little bit tight today," Painton said. "We're fortunate to walk away with a win."

Citrus had eight hits but also committed three errors. BC played flawless in the field and turned two double plays in support of Toerner.
