BC BASEBALL PULLS WITHIN ONE GAME OF FIRST PLACE

Jassen Oliver has gotten hot at just the right time; he was 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI when BC needed it most.

The Bakersfield College Baseball team (22-11, 125) picked up a key 7-3 win over LA Valley College (17-15, 8-9)  in Van Nuys, CA Saturday afternoon.

The Renegades got another quality start and victory from Austin Toerner. The freshman righthander gave up three earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Jassen Oliver has gotten hot as BC struggles to wrestle sole control of second place-or even the Western State Conference South title, away from Glendale College and College of the Canyons. Oliver was 3-4 with two doubles and a RB, and first place Glendale did their part by dispatching COC to third place-and elevating BC to sole posession of second place-with a 6-5

But it was Brock Hallum, who seemed to be taking a break from catching and maybe resting his legs for next week's season-ending three game series against Citrus College(14-18-1, 7-11),  put the game away with a two run single as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning.

First place Glendale will play their final three games of the season against a West LA team (10-22, 4-14) that has lost eight in a row, while BC takes on a Citrus team that has won their last three.

But more importantly, BC has the tie-breaker over Canyons with last weekend's big road win made it 2-1 Renegades for the series on the season.

With a home win at Gerry Collis Field next week, Bakersfield College could possibly end up with a home playoff game this year, and that's something that hasn't happened in more than a decade.
