Completing their three-game series against Bakersfield College on Saturday afternoon, the Cerritos College baseball team posted a 7-3 win. The victory gave the Falcons (7-2) the series win, and will now prepare to travel to Chaffey College on Tuesday for a 1:00 p.m. game.

Freshman pitcher Derek Valdez (Los Alamitos HS) posted another quality start, as he went 6 2/3 innings while allowing the Renegades (2-4) three runs on five hits, while he struck out six batters. Sophomore Calix Armijo (Mary Star of the Sea HS) came on in relief to record the final out of the seventh inning before he struck out the side in the eighth inning and allowed a single in the ninth inning to close out the game.

The Falcons put four runs on the board in the top of the third inning, as freshman outfielder Diego Orozco (Long Beach Wilson HS) led off with a single and moved to second on a walk to sophomore shortstop DJ Massey (Gahr HS/Central Arizona College). Cerritos loaded the bases after a fielder's choice was followed by sophomore first baseman Mike Santos (Servite HS) getting hit by a pitch. Sophomore designated hitter Marco Lopez (Narbonne HS/Vanguard University) got the team on the board with a two-run single, with a throwing error off a batted ball from sophomore outfielder Anthony Godfrey (Long Beach Millikan HS) allowed the other two runs in the inning to score.

Lopez drove in his third run of the game in the fifth inning with a double that drove in Santos, who led off with a walk.

Single runs in the seventh and eighth innings padded the Falcons lead.

Freshman third baseman Alonso Reyes (Culver City HS) walked to lead off the seventh, advanced to third on a double by Santos and then scored on an Isaiah Rios (St. John Bosco HS) base hit. Reyes drove in freshman catcher Jorge Renteria (Gahr HS) with a base hit in the eighth inning after he led off with a double.

Santos (three RBI), Santos (two runs) and Orozco each recorded a pair of hits in the win
