SBCC claimed the last four singles matches and the first two doubles to defeat Bakersfield 6-3 on Tuesday in a women's tennis match at Pershing Park.

The Vaqueros (14-4, 12-2) finished second in the Western State Conference behind Glendale. The Renegades fell to 11-9 and 9-5.

Josephine Pulver, Pia Valtierra, Hanna Pesniak and Maddie Mitchell swept their No. 3 through 6 singles sets, losing just six out of 54 games.

The No. 2 doubles team of Pulver/Valtierra breezed to an 8-0 win and the No. 1 team of Peyvandi and Goss got the final point, 8-2, avenging an earlier loss to the Bakersfield duo.

"Overall, we've improved as a team and showed our dominance in singles and our #1 and #2 doubles teams," said coach Christina Klein. "We are going into the individual WSC tournament this weekend and intend on making a name for ourselves in the team playoffs beginning next Tuesday."

SBCC will play in the WSC Individual Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Ventura College, then hope to receive an at-large bid to the Southern Cal Team quarterfinals.
