
BAKERSFIELD, CA — Bakersfield College will host its annual Fall Sports Media Day on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Rio Bravo Country Club. The event will run from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
Guests will be welcomed by the Bakersfield College cheerleading team, under the direction of the new head coach, Katrina Licon. The program will be moderated by alumni Vance Palm and will begin with remarks from Mayor Karen Goh.
The event will highlight Bakersfield College's ongoing partnership with Rio Bravo CC and introduce a new collaboration with the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino of Bakersfield.
This year's fall sports lineup includes:
- Football
- Volleyball
- Men's and women's cross country
- Women's golf
- Men's and women's soccer
- Men's wrestling
- New this year: women's water polo
Several new coaches will be introduced, each poised to make an immediate impact on their programs: Tyler Thompson, head coach – football, Bryan Hirayama, head coach – women's water polo, and Penelope Zepeda, interim head coach – volleyball.
"These coaches bring tremendous experience, energy, and vision to our programs," said Carly Flowers, Associate Athletic Director at Bakersfield College. "We're especially excited to launch our women's water polo team and continue expanding athletic opportunities for our student-athletes."
The event will include team and coach introductions, media availability for interviews, and a season overview.
All local and regional media outlets, alumni, boosters, and Bakersfield College supporters are invited to attend and help kick off another exciting season of Renegade athletics.
